Read This if You Think You are Addicted to Something in a Negative Way

A Closer Look

First of all there is hope. Not just hope as a palliative or placatory measure but hope that leads to faith which turns into freedom because God’s word says so and that is the premise of our discussion.

The Foundation of our Freedom

Our (the addicted) freedom lies in his word, in the infallibility and assurance he never lies or fails. Hebrews 13:5b; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]

Real Talk

Addiction is real. We believe we don’t have it. No sooner than we think this do we discover how far down this path we have travelled. How did we ever get here? The reality of our addiction takes us by surprise but it all started with little thread-like actions that have now kept us bound in it’s sabotaging chains.

The cycle is too simple and clear. We start out thinking we are in control. We put on the label of justs. It’s just something I struggle with, it’s just a habit. It doesn’t take long for us to see that we are just beyond the reach of our control.

And we desire to gain our control back, like a superhero stripped of their powers, we really want to have control over our lives again atleast over the choices we make which in turn shape the trajectory of our lives.
We want to be free. We want peace. We want calm. We cry. We despair. We make resolutions. We fail. We fail again. We get to the end of the road. We surrender in our search for a solution to anything that promises succor and salvation from our desperate situation.

In search of Hope

If the above is true for you let me congratulate you for you are not alone all by yourself. Matter of fact we do have a lot in common that you may not know about. We are humans. We are flawed. We err. We live off of Yahwehs grace and mercies. He will not leave us to die in despair and utter helplessness. He cares for us and cares about our emotions too.

He works in mysterious ways and that I can’t come close to explaining or understanding.
We have cried to him, pleaded, placed our petitions and prayed for him to deliver us. We expect him to deliver us in the instant we mutter our last amens to our prayer of deliverance.

For some of us our deliverance was miraculously instant and for others yes you you all but wished he took away this cross from you as you dropped it severally at his feet. He didn’t. You were persistent. You prayed again and again. Same response always. He didn’t budge. He didn’t take it away in an instant.

Another Perspective

Sometimes God will not work according to our dictates and desires. He will do what is best for our destiny. Sometimes he will take time to untangle us from the chains of habits that hold us captive. Rope after rope and chain after chain he will remove and unlock.

He will build a strength of character in us that will need time and a process to take root in our lives just so that we can appreciate his miracle of love and the gift of choice that he has bestowed on each one.

Perhaps he will take time to teach us as we trust him so that we can be agents of change and deliverance for another of his beloved children.

On the way to Freedom

No matter how long it takes till we become free we must make sure we do it with Grace. Our focus on Jesus the truth. It is when we set our eyes on him and let the light of his glory and word illuminate our hearts that we become free indeed. Keep your focus on Jesus and you will not be drowned in defeat and failure. You may fall, stumble but you will rise up again as you keep looking and walking the road of life and addictions with Jesus.

Freedom at Last

Maybe you’re still on the path to freedom or you are about to throw in the towel. Have this in mind, there’s freedom for you in Christ and freedom at last. Trust him all the way. Follow him in faith. Believe that he is a good God.

He desires ultimate good for your whole being and he will do what is good and beautiful with your life. He is the story teller, surrender your life to him and let him write and rewrite your story. He knows where to place the full-stops and commas as appropriate.

Nothing will be able to hold you captive or in slavery when you trust  and live for Christ as your Lord and Master.
In the end your story will read freedom at last.
