On the first of October every year my country celebrates her Independence anniversary. It is a public holiday and a day social analysts review how far we have come as a nation.
As I read articles online with various views and approaches to our Independence journey a thought ran through the runway of my mind.
As believers have we really gained independence and dominion over sin since we denounced membership to our former country of disobedience and rebellion?
Whether our case is like that of my country, battling with the reality of Independence of up today, down the next, this post is a justification of today’s title.
Godliness is our defense and stronghold from the enslaving, seductive and alluring power of sin.
WHAT IS SIN?
Sin is the wicked colonial master that wants to keep us in servitude and slavery by imposing the rules and dictates of it’s country upon us.
Sin does not want us to ever break free from it’s chains so that we can keep serving it and it’s master – the devil – which in turn gives us a piece of bread when the flour is warehoused in our backyard and the bakery belongs to our father.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SIN
Sin amongst a vast number of forms and transmutations is deceptive, destructive and blindfolding.
It seeks to keep the individual unaware and unwary of the consequences inherent in the sinful action.
INDEPENDENCE IS IN CHRIST
Only by believing in the finished works of Christ do we gain access to the power that gives us dominion over sin by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Christ died to purchase us from the kingdom of sin, his death paid the price for the consequences of our sin.
His blood atones, justifies and empowers us to walk in dominion over sin.
Freedom from sin in whatever form – addictive habit, negative action, disobedience and rebellion is found in Christ and Christ alone.
Willpower or legalism does not come close to quench the wildfire of sin when it is conceived through lust in the heart of an individual.
Godliness is Our New Country
Godliness is the choice to live a life that is pleasing to God. It is choosing to glorify God in our thoughts and our daily actions. In the country of the redeemed, godliness is the constitution of every bonafide citizen.
It is what enables us to claim the rights of citizenship this country of freedom from the fetters of sin and slavery offers.
The Joys and Choice of Godliness
There is much pomp and celebration that surrounds the event of a nation’s independence from another nation.
More than celebration godliness offers a life of true freedom, favour, joy and access to God’s peace which truly settles every unrest in anyone’s life because Christ is the prince of peace. The choice of and for godliness is one that offers a dual package of earthly and eternal blessings.
You Can Get Independence Today
Godliness starts with a choice a decision decided action to do away with ungodliness anything that displeases God and every appearance of evil and chose to honour God with our lives.
In doing this we experience pure through and unadulterated freedom and Peace because of one choice which sets us free from the negative consequences of the evil choices we would have made if we didn’t make a choice for godliness.
Today I urge you to accept Paul’s instruction to Timothy and fill in these things and choose to live for God through godliness.
Conclusion
My prayer for you is that as you make the choice for godliness God will honour that choice and grant you independence in deed from everything that seeks to sink your glorious destiny. For you it shall be freedom at last.
